I noticed an article in the news paper a few days again saying the school district is considering eliminating busing for students that live within a mile of the school. They estimated this would save $33,000.00. (not to mention the air/noise pollution)The article went on to say some parents were not happy due to speeders in the area, lack of sidewalks, and sex crimes offenders.
Im all for the cuts.Get the kids outside for some exercise; get the parents out from in front to the TV. and put the potato chip bag down. This will give both the patent and child a little exercise and might even get them to know the community that they live in while they walk to school. If you have problems with speeders call the police, or youre your neighbors or school employees who are most likely doing the speeding.About the lack of sidewalks they have been missing for generations without issue. What do your kids do when they go out to play with little Johnny or Sally next door and there is no sidewalk? My guess they make it ok.In regards to the sex offender or other worries they are valid but you can have the same worry when you take them to Walmart or the Mall and they walk off by them selves.I say save the money and let parents be parents instead of making the school do it.
People are whining because an entitlement is being withdrawn, one that never should have been enacted to begin with. The dinosaur that got fat on Abbott bucks is being put on a diet. Look at your property tax bill and see how much state aid is floating our opulent, marginally productive school system. If NJ is strapped for cash, the handouts will be cut back following suit. My house is subsidized by over $8,000 of "aid". That means I'd be on the hook for about $12,000.00 a year in property tax if the Abbott system gets totally dumped. This big money boondoggle needs to be radically restructured. I think the board & sup't see the train wreck coming, but are afraid to apply the brake any harder, due to public backlash.
