Another Volunteer Emergency Squad Being Shut Down
Permalink

Recent newspaper article about Pemberton Emergency Squad Station 199 losing funding and insurance as of April 1, 2013. Patriarca said. We are hoping to get Lourdes to add another ambulance. When someone is offering free services, Ill take it. If someone was offering free fire services, I would take that, too. But that doesnt happen.

Taxpayers will save money with the transition, but individual patients no longer will get a free ride to the hospital, the mayor said.

Lourdes bills patients insurance companies for ambulance services, which generally cost hundreds of dollars, even for short trips. Patriarca said Lourdes is not aggressive in collecting from patients without insurance.

Lourdes mainly relies on insurance companies to pay for their services, he said. They dont take action with collection agencies.

Here we go, another Volunteer Organganization gone under this Mayor. I guess individual patients who reside in this town are not Taxpayers based on the above. And do you really believe that a business is not in business to make money? They may currently not be aggressively in collection from uninsured now but let the economy get worse and see what happens.

A neighbor maybe interested if they fold. I know the squad is trying to continue their service without twp. funding. But your point may have some validity after 2014.

The Mayor has said repeatedly he is NOT looking to create a "paid" fire co.  Of course, after he stops funding all of them and we have NO Volunteers left, he will be able to say:

"I never planned to create a Paid Fire Co, but I had NO other choice."

Have to wonder after the Council meeting last evening if there is not a conflict of interest here with the Mayor who admits to complaining about noise at the squad building and being the one who controls the power to close them. Is there an ETHICS issue here?

According to the powers that be, they don't send collection agencies after the person. They accept what your insurance carrier pays.  However, that is not a guarantee. Policy may change rapidly when they are on the hook for thousands, if not millions, after a prolonged period of reduced payments due to no insurance coverage, insurance company frugality and uh, om, Obamacare price fixing.

If you believe that, I have a Bridge for sale.

I was sharing what was propagated at a PTC meeting. However, the boldfaced type above is highlighting my skepticism on the issue. I could have said that the statist want to control everything and phase out all volunteerism and charity, but left that for another discussion ;) .

Its a sad state of affairs when our volunteers are turned away. If you have to use the ambulance now I am also concerned that this will limit our choice of hospitals.

I still cant understand what the end game is here.  At least when the township closed Magnolia Fire they had a plan/agreement with Goodwill Fire in Pemberton Borough to provide coverage. Now the rescue squad is closed and we have NO fall back plan for this side of town.  I still cant believe the council and citizens are allowing this tunnel vision to continue.  Again the council is saying their hands are tied its a contract the Mayor controls.  They did this with the train station and now with the rescue squad.  I say bull.  You control the purse strings if you were to ever get some backbone.  But based on past history and we all know history repeats its self this will not happen.  My guess it the King is about to appoint a Duke; all hail Duke Craig.

Statism is being implemented throughout the township. Control, control, control. Follow the party line and the Bolsheviks will toss you a bone.

The Presidential Lakes Fire & Rescue Squad and Browns Mills Emergency Squad needs your help. It appears that the local government is about to force consolidation of the three (3) Fire Companies and the Browns Mills Emergency Squad. This is about to take place with no discussion with all organizations. During (2) meetings early last year, the PLF&RS advised that consolidation is not what our membership wanted and they involved us in no further meetings.

Resident's need to support not only PLF&RS, but the Browns Mills Emergency Squad at the upcoming Council meeting 4/17/2013 at 7:00pm. Location of meeting is the Municipal building. The Presidential Lakes Fire & Rescue Squad, Inc is the redheaded stepchild under the current fire department setting and it will get worse under the proposed ordinance. The Pemberton First Aid Squad is already closed.

The proposed ordinance says merging. The plan I am sure is to close the building and locate an ambulance at 181 and 183 and then the Fire Department will start EMS billing, do away with Lourdes and hire staff. This is not only destroying organizations but will also cost the tax payers of this township.

The residents are the ones who will feel it the worst. So support these (2) two organizations in having this proposed ordinance defeated.

This is the only town I know that doesn't want volunteers! Makes you wonder why? Who are these jobs going to - that we will have to pay for?

It seems that PT's elected leader(s) only want volunteers to expand the rec. dept & to clean up. If you look around the U.S., not just here, gov't is setting up obstacles for our "first responders". You would think that they would want more volunteers, but the control issue eclipses the practical aspect.

I'm glad that the mayors proposal fell to the floor. 8-2013 is bad news for the taxpayer and an insult to our many volunteers.

That was a dog n pony show folks.  This was NEVER going to pass-it was all a set up to make Council look good.  Sherry Scull is setting up for a Mayoral run.  Mark my words.
